Finding the Mean

The Mean is the average of all the numbers in the data set. In order to find the mean, you must add up all of the numbers and divide by how many numbers there were in the data set. Here is a visual to help explain the mean.

Finding the Median

The median is the middle number in the data points. In order to find the median, you first have to arrange all your data from smallest to largest number. Once you have done this, find the number in the middle. One of the easiest ways to do this is by crossing off one number from each end. Sometimes there isn't a middle number so to find the median you must take the mean of both numbers. Here is a visual to make more sense of this concept.

Finding the Mode

The word mode means most. In order to find the mode, you must find which number occurs the most in your data set. If there is more than one number that occurs the most, then both numbers will be considered the mode. Here is a visual to help explain how to find the mode. 

Finding the Range

This is how you find the range of numbers in your data set. First you take the highest number, and then subtract the lowest number from the data you have obtained. The answer will be your range. Here is a visual to help make more sense.
